James Turlington was had leased for life 100 acres of land from George Scarburgh.
James Turlington, son of James
Turlington and Ann his wife, was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1755. He married
Ann, (Survey 2)circa 1770 in Accomack Co., VA. She was born in Accomack Co., VA
circa 1752. In his father James' will on 31 August 1792 in Accomack Co., VA, James
was named as an heir. It was probated 30 December 1793 Nottingham Wills, p.
401). An abstract of his will reads:
TURLINGTON, JAMES - 31 Aug. 1792
- 30 Dec. 1793 - To wife Ann. To daughter Ann Parker. To grandchildren William Custis
Savage & Peggy Savage. To son James Turlington. To daughter Comfort Martin. To
grandaughter Betty Martin. To grandson James Martin. To daughter Catharine Watson.
To son Arthur Turlington. To daughter Margaret Turlington. Wife Ann & children
Catherine Watson, Arthur & Margaret Turlington & James Turlington residual legatees.
Wife Ann Exec. Witt: John Savage, George Scarburgh, Leah Savage.
On
29 December 1795 the lands of Saint George District 11 were processioned: James Turlington
was present to witness the processioning (Walczyk Processions, p. 10. 11).
The text reads in part:
. . . William Crowson, John Boggs, Francis Boggs,
William Kennihorn, Stephen Moore, Michl Parker, Purnal Outten, William Smith,
Levin Smith, Benjn Phillips, Branson Dolby, Jno R. Parker, John Bayly, Levi
Rodgers, Thos S. Bayly & Jas Turlington present.
On 5 September 1796
in in Accomack Co., James Turlington requested that the lands he was leasing from
George Scarburgh in Dahl's Swamp be surveyed. This land was bounded by the lands
of John R. Parker, John Teackle Jr., John Arlington, and Scarburgh's land. The text
reads:
September 5th 1796 Surveyed at the request of James Turlington
(Dolls Swamp) One hundred Acres of land from the lands of Geo. Scarburgh which sd
Scarburgh hath leased with the sd Turlington & wife during their natural lives which
lands do lie in the Parish of St. Geo. & County of Accomack and known by the name
of Doll's Swamp the Plat and other particulars below

James was listed as the head of a family on the 1800 Census in Accomack
Co., VA (Powell, Censuses , p 46). The census reads: James Turlington 1 male
10-16, 1 male 26-45, 4 females 0-10, 1 female 10-16, 1 female 26-45.
